Configuring Zoho Mail as POP Account

POP, or Post Office Protocol, lets you download messages from Zoho Mail server into the mail client of your choice, enabling you to access your mail from desktop applications like Outlook or  Thunderbird.
POP Access is provided at no additional cost for Zoho Mail Users. 
To access Zoho Mail using POP, first and foremost you need to enable POP Access for Zoho.

Enable POP Access

Enabling POP access will enable mail clients like Outlook to access Zoho mail using POP. Follow the steps below to enable POP Access to Zoho mail.
  1. Log in to mail.zoho.com
  2. Click Settings
  3. Go to Mail Settings >> Email Forwarding and POP/ IMAP
  4. In the POP Access Section Select
    • Enable for all messages - This will enable POP and when configured on a client, it will download all the messages in the mailbox.
    • Enable for messages that arrive from now on – This will enable POP and when configured on a client, it will download the messages in the mailbox that were received from the date POP was enabled.
  5. Click Save to save the Settings

POP Configuration settings for Zoho Mail

You can configure Zoho mail in any Email client which supports POP server. Basic settings for configuring  POP access for Zoho are given below.

Include SPAM Messages in POP download

Zoho Mail allows you to choose whether you want to download messages classified as Spam in your POP clients or not. With the option to Include Spam Messages in POP retrieval, you can now be assured that you do not miss any genuine messages in your POP clients, inadvertently marked as Spam.

  1. Click Settings
  2. Go to Mail Settings >> Email Forwarding and POP/ IMAP
  3. In the POP Section, for Include Spam Messages Option,
    • Select 'Yes' to retrieve Spam messages in POP Clients
    • Select 'No' to not receive Spam Messages in POP clients
  4. Click Save to save the Settings

POP Delete Settings:

You can choose to delete the messages from server or retain the messages in server, when a POP client issues a delete command.

Steps to enable Delete mails from Server:

  1. Login to mail.zoho.com
  2. Click Settings » Mail » POP/ IMAP and Email Forwarding
  3. Under the POP Section, select ‘Delete mails from server, when the client issues a Delete command’, to delete messages from server, when client issues a delete command.

Most of the POP clients provide an option to delete messages from the server based on a set of conditions in the POP Email client. When the client issues a delete command for a particular email, the email will be moved to Trash folder, if you have chosen ‘Delete’ option in the POP setting.

Disable POP Access
If you have enabled POP and need to disable now, follow the steps below.
  1. Click Settings
  2. Go to Mail Settings >> Email Forwarding and POP/ IMAP
  3. In the POP Access Section click 'Disable'
  4. Click Save to save the Settings
